Sedation Dentistry

Does visiting the dentist fill you with anxiety and dread? Do you resist treatment due to the state of your teeth? If you can relate to either of these questions, we’re here to help.

Sedation dentistry in Sioux Falls, SD, helps patients reclaim their oral health and resume regular dental checkups and teeth cleanings. Through dental sedation, you can feel relaxed when you visit the dentist!

Of course, there are other reasons to consider dental sedation. For example, patients who gag easily during treatment or those undergoing multiple or invasive procedures on the same day may benefit.

No matter the reasons, we’re thrilled to offer options, including nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation, to make your time in the chair relaxing.

Gentle Dentistry in Sioux Falls: Our Patient-Centered Focus

As a family dentist, we take measures to ensure patients of all ages—from children to senior adults—enjoy relaxing and anxiety-free dental care. We start with powerful local anesthesia to ensure you never feel pain. Then, we provide a relaxing environment for one and all.

Besides local anesthesia and dental sedation, we use patient-centered technology to enhance comfort and well-being.

These technologies include digital scanners instead of goopy impression materials for your restorations. You’ll also enjoy televisions in our treatment rooms for an added distraction. Catch up on your favorite programs while we take care of your smile.

Dental Phobia: Three Common Causes

Dental phobia is a common issue that keeps many patients out of the dental chair. Of course, a compassionate dental team, a judgment-free environment, and sedation dentistry can help alleviate anxiety. Below, we've shared a few key reasons why seeing the dentist makes some patients anxious.

Past Experience

In the past, you may have encountered an abrupt dentist or an inpatient team member. When you're not treated with kindness and patience, it can lead to anxiety and phobia.

Decayed Teeth

If you've spent years away from the dental office, you can develop advanced decay and tooth loss. The embarrassment feeds your anxiety. Our compassionate team can help!

Gag Reflexes

If you cough or choke easily, you may feel anxious when the dentist works inside your mouth. Sedation dentistry can ease your gag reflex, allowing you to get the care you need.

Why Choose Sedation Dentistry?

Below, Dr. Vitaly Perets, your Sioux Falls dentist, has compiled a few reasons to consider sedation dentistry.

  • Dental Phobia and Fear: We understand patient fear and how it can prevent people from seeing the dentist. Sedation dentistry may be the solution.
  • Embarrassment and Anxiety: If you’ve neglected your dental care due to past financial issues or phobia, you may be reluctant to return if you have advanced decay or missing teeth due to neglect. Our judgment-free dental care promises and easy return, and sedation dentistry can also play a role.
  • Easy Gag Reflex: Some patients cough or gag easily when a dentist works inside their mouth. Sedation dentistry can relax this common response.
  • Multiple Dental Treatments: Multiple dental treatments can take time and be especially difficult for children. Invasive treatments, such as dental implant placement, wisdom tooth removal, and the like, may also be challenging. Sedation dentistry can give the illusion of time passing faster.

Sedation Dentistry Options to Meet Your Needs

We monitor you closely during treatment and while you're under sedation. We also take a health history to determine whether dental sedation is a suitable option for you.

Nitrous Oxide: This safe gas, delivered through a nose mask, leaves no lingering effects. However, you'll feel completely relaxed and detached from your dental procedure. Nitrous oxide is safe for patients of all ages.

Oral Conscious Sedation: Oral sedation is a medication taken before your procedure. This method means you may not remember much of your appointment and will need a friend or family member to provide transportation. With oral sedation, we recommend not making any crucial life decisions on treatment day. It would help if you also rested after your procedure, letting the effects wear off. Oral sedation is ideal for patients who feel especially nervous in the dental chair.
